Complete trust

Sometimes it isn't always a good thing to be a nurse.

Just ask Katie.

When she had her first surgery in November, she only stayed 2 days instead of 5 because her surgeon could see that I knew how to take care of her ear and rib incisions along with the drain tubes.

Katie loved the hospital, she was spoiled with a huge huge tv that connected to internet too (got to admit I like that screen tv too), she had a bed that she could control up and down, She could order room service whenever she wanted to.  

For the surgery in February, that was the minor one so far.  She had to come home the same day.  The surgery this past Wednesday is typically an overnight but because I am a nurse, she was sent home the same day.  One disappointed little girl.  But she got spoiled at home, so not all bad.

This was Katie's ear the night after surgery.  There is a a little bit of swelling but not a lot.

This Is Katie's ear Friday morning, very swollen, redden and very sensitive to touch.

My mom had taken the younger girls and I out to eat at McDonald's and then we were going to go shopping.  Katie came over to me at 10:30 and told me her ear was bothering her.  I looked at it and started the questions, did you bump it (she was playing in the tubes and slides), did you scratch it, etc.  She repeated no on all of them, her groin wasn't bothering her much.  I have her surgeon's personal cell phone in case I had any concerns.  I had used it once after the first surgery.  This time I thought I would try texting him as I figure with him being a doctor, he would have text messaging.  So I sent him these two pictures and asked him if there should be any concerns.  He called me within 2 minutes, stating he didn't think there was any issues, but since the weekend is coming up, he would see Katie to ease my and his mind.  He told me I had to be at the U of M clinic within in 1 hour as that is where he was practicing until 11:30 (he practices at 5 different locations, which does make it easy for me to make appointments to see him).  We were about 40 minutes away, so we got in the car and went.  He fit us in, Praise the Lord.  He examine it ear and asked Katie some questions and decided he was ok with how everything looks.  Thank you God.  He sent us on our merry way and said see you on Monday.  Katie will have the "boltser" removed on Monday.  He did warn me again that her ear will stick out really far at first and that it can take up to 6 months for it to total resolve the swelling.  My mom got to meet him and she now understands why I and the kids really like this surgeon, that she can see how good he is with kids.
I am so grateful to the Lord, that Katie is having her little ear made into a big ear by this surgeon,  He does such a awesome job and he talks so well to all of my younger kids, has a sense of humor with them,  is very up front with everything and is readily available by phone if I have concerns.
Katie has been very clingy this time around.  The other two surgeries she was clingy but nothing like this time around, not sure why.  She is also full of energy and is wanting to be on the go all the time.  She even forgets she has a 6 inch cut in the upper groin/lower stomach area, tonight she is complaining of the ear being itchy, in the past she had the bubble cup over the ear, so she would tap on that when she felt like she wants to itch, this time she can't have anything to protector her ear and she has done pretty good about not scratching or anything of that ear.  Keep sending positive thoughts and prayers that her ear continues to do well and that Katie doesn't accidentally scratch the ear.
