Attempting this again.

I decided we would try
Fostering a dog again,
To give Darla
a companion
and to save another dog from the kill shelter
 This is Monika and Smiley
Smiley is year and 1/2 basset/blood hound mix.
She was a stray in KY and then put in a shelter for a
long period of times before deciding they put her
in a kill shelter.
Lucky for Smiley SHH took her into their program
and now she is with us.
 The first night with us.
She no longer sleeps at the foot of the bed
she sleeps on my pillow next to me.
Darla has gotten jealous at times and makes
sure she is close to me in bed now.
Smiley loves toys and has been
showing Darla how to play with toys.
Darla now is sneaky and will take the toys and hide
behind the couch.  Smiley doesn't like it
and will go behind the couch and bark at Darla.
Smiley is a lot of work.  We have had her for 25 days,
When she came to us, she had no control over
peeing and pooping.
She almost got that under control now, but still
struggles some.
She also likes to chew things up and we have lost
some things.
We now crate her when we are not home
(she fine at night when in bed)

She came with some other behaviors that we are working on correcting.
She always looking for food and putting paws up,
but is improving.
She is more of a cuddlier then Darla is and prefers to be
on someone lap like she is with me
Katie with Smiley (on the left) and Darla.
Smiley does a lot better in the car then Darla does.
Darla first time touching the snow.
She actually doesn't mind it,
neither does Smiley.  They play in the snow.
Smiley has been a good teaching dog with Erin.
Erin has gotten mad at Smiley for pooping/peeing in the house
(which she almost totally potty trained now. ) or when
she chews something up and so forth.
Erin has asked why we keep her,
I say because she needs to be shown love
and how to live with a family.

I then compare with what she was like when she came home,
How challenging she was,
destroying things and doing hurtful things,
and I didn't give up on her at all.
It helps Erin to see that.
Smile and Darla,
love playing together
it is a lot of fun to watch them.

We started to crate Smiley
when we aren't home.
She doesn't like it at all,
She shreds what in there,
so now she doesn't have nothing in there with her
except some hard toys.

I keep praying that she will stop with the taking things that she isn't
suppose to have and stop chewing them, so she doesn't have to be
crated.

  1. Congratulations on your adorable new addition to your family. What a lot of fun for you and your family. Praying it all goes quickly with the training. (I hate crating a dog. I know you have to sometime though)

    God bless
