Below is an email that I received from a dear friend of my. Her daughter Lily and Jenny used to dance together. Jenny has now chosen to do gymnastics with her sisters so she is no longer dancing. This family is such an awesome family and what a wonderful opportunity for them. They did not get the privileged to travel to Korea to adopt Mia. Mia was brought to them, so this would be a great opportunity to see where their first born daughter birth country.
Hello everyone:
As you all know, we feel so blessed to be parents of our daughters, Mia and Lily. You have all been a part of our lives as we have grown our family in such a special way. You know how passionate we are about helping Mia and Lily develop a strong sense of pride in their Korean and Chinese heritages. We work hard to expose them to activities such as Korean and Chinese dance, culture camps, and language. We have been so fortunate to be part of a wonderful Korean adoptee community through the Chang-mi Korean Dance & Drum group.
This fall, Chang-mi received an unexpected invitation to perform at a very special event in Korea in March of 2012. This event is the opening of a new museum and archive honoring the history of Korean war orphans, and a guest house for visiting adoptees from around the world. The museum and guest house are located in renovated orphanage buildings in Gwangju, a major cultural center. This is a highly unusual invitation -- no adoptee group has been invited to anything like this before.
The group is trying to raise funds online through Kickstarter. We are out of our comfort zone asking for funds, and we hope we have not offended anyone with this email. However, this is a chance of a lifetime for Mia to dance in her country of origin and we appreciate any amount you might consider.
We have until March 1 to raise the $10,000 which covers some of the cost for the Chang-mi dancers. The group receives the funds only if the entire $10,000 goal is reached, so your donation will not actually be "charged" until the goal is reached.
