2 down, half way there

Today, Katie had the second surgery for her microtia.  She had to wait until early afternoon before the surgery which was hard on her as she wasn't allow to eat or drink and she was a hungry girl this morning.  She asked if she could stay in her pj's and go to the hospital.  Sure thing baby.
Katie in the preop room having her blood pressure taken
She picked this fancy gown over the traditional pants and shirt
This fancy gown had different holes in it, you hook up a warm air tube to it and it keeps you warm, she is a happy camper with that and the remote control
What the ear looks like before the surgery.  The plan was to do a little skin flap of the very top right part of her ear.  He wanted to get that "extra" tissue out of there and shape that area better.  The surgery didn't start until 50 minutes later then it scheduled.  The room that she was having the surgery in was running behind.  When it was time for the surgery, I went back with her again.  This time it was very different, they didn't have the balloon that she needed to blow up, they much have had more powerful gas for her as it only took three breaths and she she was out.  The braids in her hair is from Erin.
Katie just out of surgery and in the recovery room.  Her surgery lasted just a tad over 3 hours.  Her doctor thought he would be done after two hours.  Found out that he did a little more then what he plan on doing, it started the 3rd surgery a little bit to hope it will be better healing when he does do the rest of it.
First words she said when she started to wake up..."I am hungry and thristy"  She went to sleep thinking that too.  Instead of popicle sticks this time, she got 2 slushies.  She really enjoyed them.  She also got a smiley face balloon.
As you can see, that shape of the top right part of the ear looks a lot better now without that skin flap.  The top left part of the ear is swollen.  He did tell me that I won't like how the ear looks for a couple of weeks because of the swollen part, even with the swelling I can see what this surgery did for the one area.  The other part of the surgery he did (that he decided to do while she was in surgery), is make some little cuts behind the ear.  He is hoping that with that, it will pull the blood flow to those ears so when he does the 3rd surgery it will take better.

I continue to be amazed my Katie's doctor.  He has so much compassion in what he does.  He is such a perfectionist when it comes to his work.  He is very honest and makes sure everything is known up front.  He given me his cell number to call anytime if I have concerns or questions.  He explains things very throughly and today he explain why he decided during surgery to what he did, how he thinks it will help with the future surgeries and make the end results more successful.
I praised the Lord with keeping Katie safe and the surgeries being successful.
