Surgery number 2

On Friday we went to see Dr Walsh for Katie's 2nd surgery.  He informed us that after he looked at the pictures of her ear that he took at her 6 weeks post-op, he decided to change how he doing the surgeries.  He explained (while he was showing me on her ear), what he originally was going to do and what he decided he wanted to do now.  Originally the 2nd surgery was suppose to consist of cutting the whole back side of the ear and do a skin draft from her groin area and pop out the outer ear so that it looks more "normal" and also do some tissue tuck on the top of the curve part of the ear. The surgery she will be having on the 22nd is one of the "minor" surgery.  he is going to take part of the originally lobe and do a little tuck up by the top of the curve part of the ear.  He said he wants to get that in a good shape and healed before doing the 3rd surgery.  He informed me that I will hate him after the 3rd surgery and he hates the post op of the 3rd surgery.  The 3rd surgery which will happen in May will be cutting the whole backside of the ear lobe and doing the skin draft, he said that it takes about 6 months for the ear moves into the shape is suppose to be.  That the swelling takes so long because there is no really good blood flow in that part and that fatty cell like to collect there.  He did reassure that we won't have to wait for 6 months after that surgery to do the 5th surgery which is the drill hole.  He then examine Jenny's surgery site and said it looks really good.  she has grown a little bit since he last saw her in December, but not enough.  He made sure she understood that everything is going the way it suppose to be, and that waiting a few more months to allow the scar tissue to continue to heal, the better her ear would be.  He then said to her you still don't have your two front teeth, I remember that before Christmas you told me that is all you wanted for Christmas.  That meant a lot to Jenny that he remember that.  He is suck a great surgeon.  Katie surgery will be same day, she won't be having it until 1 in the afternoon, so she will have to be NPO (nothing by mouth) when she goes to bed the night before, she is a very big eater and it will be hard for her not to able to eat.  She is also disappointed about not being able to stay overnight at the hospital as she loved the beds there and unlimited Popsicle.  I told her that I will be able to fix the Popsicle one but not the bed.
I am so grateful that their surgeon thinks and studies on what to do with the ears, that he takes his time and thinks about what is best for them.  That he is a perfectionist and is concern of their well being and long term outcome and not the short term.  Thank you Lord.
