Katie, Monika, Lily, and Jenny. Lily was visiting us while her mom was doing some errands. The girls we cooking away upstairs in the playroom. We had lots of fun with Lily. Lily is a couple of weeks older then Jenny.When Monika was in Kindergarten we were told she was "gifted" in academics and was given the option to send her to a "gifted" school. After much discussion among us, our family and the school, it was decided we would keep her at her current school and they would keep her challenged which they have. With talking with people that have had experiences with children that are academic gifted, we were encouraged not to use the word "smart" to describe her or telling her she is smart for many reason, so we always tell our kids good job. Monika doesn't know she is academic "gifted". We just recently found out Jenny is the top academic performer in her kindergarten class. Again, there is discussion on how to handle this, Her and Monika's situations are each unique. Many people talk about how luck we are to have "gifted" children, when they say this, they are referring to Monika and now Jenny too.
I always have said each person, adult or child are gifted in their own way. Yes, two of my daughters are academics gifted. Katie is gifted with eyes, she can find things that were lost or misplace like no one else can, she is very tuned in the little details when it of interest of her. She is gifted of bringing smiles to everyone she meets because you can't resist her smiles. Jade is gifted with her singing, origami making and dumplings . Of the little we know, Erin is gifted as a badminton player. This is only a couple of examples of my "gifted" children. They have many gifts and they gave me the most precious gift of all, allowing me to be their MOM, I remind people when they say I am so lucky to have a "gifted" child and they are referring to Monika or now Jenny, that their child or themselves are gifted too.
So when you wish you had a "gifted" child, just remember you do....

Sue, you are very GIFTED with words. A person can see just how much God is working in your life and thru all this, how you see things in a unique way.. Good prespective on viewing the word GIFTED besides the normal Academic meaning of the word. Amen to saying we all are GIFTED in our own way and pointing out the other kids "GIFTED" ways.. Very positive and uplifting and I shall follow your foot step in looking at my kids and grandkids in a new way! Thanks for sharing this! God bless you and may Erin come home soon!
