Dave taught Monika how to play cribbage, she caught on pretty fast and ended beating Dave (he didn't let her win, she was getting some good hands). We have since been working with teaching Katie and Jenny. Definitely helps with the math skills.
Monika raiding Jades Advance Placement Biology test book. Where she is sitting is in front of the heat vent which she loves to do because it is so warm on a cold morning, of course then it can't heat the front half of the house, but at least she is toasty warm.
She is getting to be a pro at making scramble Eggs. Katie and Jenny are pros's at egg cracking and Jenny can make macaroni and cheese all by herself.
It amazes me how much these kids can absorb things and want to learn so much. Last night I worked with Erin with her looking at words on a piece a paper and signing them. She knew all of words/signs as long as she had the paper in front of her. I tried making flashcards and she couldn't remember the signs then. She is making more attempts at saying words and is copying mouth movements. She is being a little bit resistance with wearing her hearing aides at home because she said her ears hurt, so we are working on that.
So far this week has been a good week, no one has said less then smart comments to me about my wonderful girls or about adoption, Erin is doing well, Monika is whining less and getting homework done better, everyone is healthy, and God is doing great things.
We also found out that Erin's good friend that lives at the orphanage who we met when we got Erin will be united with her forever family on November 28. Kennedy is 13 years old too and she shared her bed with Erin when Erin was at the orphanage. Kennedy also helped Erin write the email that we received shortly before traveling because Erin doesn't know pinyin. Kennedy's family lives in Texas, but we are hoping that they will be able to skype once she is home. Kennedy's family were hoping that they would be traveling before Christmas and have been praying so much that it would be a lot sooner, and it was. God has blessed them so much as he has with me.

Love your updates! Monika is so smart! Dave better watch out- he may never win again!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that Erin's friend is coming home!!
Monika sounds like my kind of girl; I love to sit about four inches in front of the woodstove on the ledge of the hearth in the winter! Great news about Erin's friend, for she and for Erin. Glad you haven't met any more smart mouthed people :-)
