Last week Miss Monika informed me she was allergic to homework. She never cares for it, she doesn't mind reading, doing math or writing, just wishes it could be on her terms. I told her that everyone is allergic to homework and that is something we learned to just deal with. Well now we have a totally opposite (different )child.

| Miss Jenny Jenny had a very hard week back to school after break. She acted out and said things she shouldn't have said. Her teacher informed me Friday about it. I told Jenny we would talk on Sunday after the waterpark weekend. Sunday came and Dave and I sat down with her. She really didn't have any answers other then "my brain told me to do it", we explained that she needs to listen to her other half of her brain that knows right and wrong. We figured it had to do with the current house situation and told her to take it out on her dad and mom if ths is mad because of the situation. She said she wasn't mad at that, we continued to talk, when she finally started to cry and say I WANT HOMEWORK LIKE MONIKA AND KATIE. She preceeded to tell us that school is to easy for her. |

| Last spring we had Jenny tested because of her acedamically gifted. Eventhough she is gifted when it comes to school, it was decided that she wasn't going to skip a grade mainly because it would have to much of affect on Katie. The school and us agreed that they would put her in advance classes which they did for math and reading. Well our bookworm is now saying that is to easy, plus she wants to have the same kind of homework and writing stuff the her sisters have. So after talking with her teacher on Monday, it was decided that they will send more homework home for her and she will have reading/writing assignments like her sisters. She came home on Monday night all excited and proud to have homework. Lets hope this continues. We gave Jenny some advice about not acting out and instead talking to people to get the problem fix or to find solutions. Lets hope she will take it. |
Maybe Jenny could do Monika's homework for her :)
ReplyDeleteOur first child was very gifted-taught himself to read at about three using road signs, and went into first grade able to add, subtract, divide and multiply in his head in the thousands, understood negative numbers, fractions, and numberlines. By second grade they talked about moving him up. By third grade they thought seriously that he should be. We decided against it. I am under 5' tall and we had no idea if he would be short. I know what short guys go through and it is not pleasant. We worried that he would be super smart, ahead of his peers, and short-what an awful combination! So we left him where he was, took enrichment where and when it was offered, and have no regrets at all. Did he get bored sometimes? Yes. Did he know everything? No. Are there other ways to develop besides intellectually? You bet. He dedicated himself to basketball and by the beginning of his senior year he made his 1,000th point. (He's a good 14 inches taller than me, so the height thing turned out not to be a worry :-).
ReplyDeleteYou should talk to her school about enrichment vs. volume and see what they can do for her. But isn't it wonderful to have someone who wants more work!
